I am proud that some of my project outputs are employed in the Olympic Winter Games, the Taobao APP, and Alibaba Cloud, reaching hundreds of millions of users.

DAMO Academy, Alibaba Group (NLP Engineer → Senior NLP Engineer) — July 2019 - August 2021

  • Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning: Specialized in natural language processing, including question answering, language generation, and machine reading comprehension.
  • Project Leadership: Led projects involving recommendation systems for digital humans and automatic testing of dialogue systems.
  • Innovation in Virtual Interaction: Contributed to the development of a virtual influencer prototype, which debuted at the Winter Olympics (2022), showcasing cutting-edge applications of virtual human technology, NLP, and computer vision.
  • Impact & Recognition: My projects at DAMO Academy have been widely reported in the media, pushing the boundaries of AI innovation.

2. Industrial Projects 💡

Below are selected projects that have been successfully implemented in real-world applications. Translating novel ideas from research papers into solutions used by millions is always challenging but deeply rewarding.

2.1. Generative AI 🧠

  1. Generative Dialogue: Before the rise of large language models (LLMs), we proposed various methods for generating responses to user queries, including the teacher-student (MTSS) framework in the AAAI paper and the dual adversarial learning (DAL) framework in the NAACL workshop paper.
  2. Knowledge Generation: Focused on generating question-answer pairs, as detailed in OneStop QA Maker on arXiv and the Knowledge Generation Patent.

2.2. Digital Humans 👥

  1. Digital Humans and Virtual Influencers (VIs): I developed the first version of the recommendation algorithm for digital humans, which led to the debut of the Virtual Influencer at the Olympic Games, Beijing 2022.
  2. Long-Text Generation for Digital Human Scripts: Developed methods for the automatic construction of scripts for VIs to describe products. More details are available in the CIKM paper.

2.3. Dialogue Systems 💬

I led and acted as the main developer for automatic testing systems for various applications in Alime, including Alime, Alime-Cloud, and Alime-Shop. More details can be found in the patents on testing query generation.

  1. Automatic Testing Systems for Industrial Chatbots: Led the development of automatic testing systems for various application matrices of Alime, including Alime, Alime-Cloud, and Alime-Shop. Details are available in the patent about testing query generation and the patent on the automatic testing method.
  2. Retrieval-Based Algorithms for KB-QA Chatbots: Implemented two session-based retrieval methods to improve retrieval accuracy in KB-QA Chatbots. See the CIKM paper, KDD paper, CSM patent, and QSM patent for more details.
